Remove in-game CC: CAW will read any custom content that you have installed to your Sims 3 game, even if it cannot be used by CAW (for example, clothes and hairstyles). This can mean that your computer will not perform well with CAW. To solve this, try removing your custom content whilst you run CAW to see if you get a better performance. CAW opening screen flashes, but CAW will not run: JadedSidhe advises a solution to this problem in this post. (Running the CAW executable as an administrator will bypass any UAC restrictions which cause this problem.

Another way of preventing this issue would be to install your CAW tool and the Sims 3 game to a non-default location, for example C: Games. If that solution fails, the next thing to try would be to backup your user files and redownload/ reinstall CAW. Edit in Game crashing/ not saving: If you are having trouble making EIG save your world, there are a few things you can try.

Computer performance: Improve your computer performance by shutting down unnecessary tasks and optimizing your system. Some hints and tips here: Steam Users: Thanks to auntielynds for indirectly reminding me of this!;) If you have purchased and installed The Sims 3 through Steam, you will find that CAW will not work correctly.

This is because the Steam version of TS3 has a different file structure and uses different registry keys, so CAW is not able to correctly read the game data. To solve this, use your Steam license keys to download TS3 from EADM (now known as Origins) instead of through Steam: I completely uninstalled the game from Steam. Then I used my Steam CDKeys for the game, all of the expansions, and all of the Stuff packs to activate them with the EA Download Manager. (Note, activating keys in the EADM does not give you a positive response that the key was registered but after entering it, when you close the dialog the Sims game will show up in the EADM) Once EADM had all of the games recognized I downloaded and installed them from there. After each one, I ran it and did the updates, I'm not sure of the required order or if it needed to be patched each time but I did them in order of release and it worked. At this point in my Sims frustration I didn't mind any little extra steps. Everything installed fine and patched up and I installed the Create A World tool.

Now the Create A World tool loads right up with no problems! I don't really do any social stuff on Steam so I don't know how this might be seen as negative to other players by not having any Steam features but I figured since it doesn't have any achievements anyway that it's no big deal.

Personal choice I suppose but hopefully my experience can help some people. At the very least you could install the game twice Source for this: Check out the CAW troubleshooting thread on the official Sims 3 forum also: Thank you to all who have contributed to this article! Please feel free to add any more suggestions to this thread, or you can PM me to advise me of any errors or additions. It would be much appreciated! I wanted just to share that my CAW didn't opened after doing complete clean installion for all the sims games (I did it right, I followed these instructions excatly: ). Caw didn't give me any error messages, the loading screen just showed up and then vanished.

So I also tried all the things listed in this thread, but Caw still didn't opened. I also tried to play Caw with only base game, but that didn't help at all either. So I was about to do clean install for the 6th time and then patch my base game with 1.19 and use Caw version 1.11.4, but I got it to work! And here is how to: I deleted the world tool folder from here: C: Users my username AppData Local VirtualStore Program Files (x86) Electronic Arts Sorry, I don't have any idea what the folders name is in english, because my folder's name are in finnish, but I would still say that there is no problem to find right folder. Hope this information helps someone.

Sorry, if this was obvious. Just a quick thank you Simsample for this thread. I just spent my Sunday afternoon uninstalling, and reinstalling sims up to patch 1.19. I reinstalled the Caw version 1.11.4 that was out before Gen, and it wouldn't open. Reinstalled a few times, checked my patch levels, then I remembered reading something about Virtual Store Files on this thread.

I deleted those, and now Caw works like a charm. Thanks to to you, and Gelis for the info. Here's the Caw version 1.11.4 in case anyone needs it http://www.mediafire.com/?wscuxp625bkryxm. Hi, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but my CAW still doesn't work. First i tried to start CAW with the newest 1.24 patch but it didn't work and forums said that the new patch was just useless and EA forgot to make a patch for CAW and that that is the reason why it doesn't work (?) so i reinstalled the sims and generations because generations would fix it, at least that's what i read but even with generations CAW doesn't work. I now have patch 1.22 installed and generations, i also tried several CAW versions but none of them work. I really don't know what to do now i already tried the things listed above in the thread, am i missing something or is my game just really messed up?

I don't think EA have released the updated version of CAW for the 1.24 patch yet- at least, I'm not seeing anyone who has it working yet. For the 1.22 patch you need CAW 1.11.10- not sure where you can download that if you don't have it already. If you do have it then make sure ALL Eps and Sps are at the same patch level (in that case level 011). The other option would be to try the version Lynds linked above, with patch 1.19. Otherwise, wait until EA put a new CAW up for 1.24.

There were issues with the CAW for 1.22 anyway- Edit In Game didn't work correctly- so hopefully they will fix that. Thank You so much, this is a great post. I don't see why EA can't just archive them on their site, but I'm so glad that someone did. Thanks once again! I've tried downloading this one '26. My game launcher says it's at version 6.5.1.012031 if that helps? I'm totally confused on what to do, I've read all of the things above but nothing seems to work.: What version are your other EPs/ Sps, and basegame?

The latest patch should make it so that the other game versions are not relevant (as everything runs from the TS3W executable), but I know that CAW has complained in the past about outdated EPs, so it's worth checking. If you do have all EPs and Sps fully patched, and the basegame at 1.24, then you will most likely need the latest CAW (1.11.12).

Thank you so much for this advise, simsample. I have been trying for a few weeks to progress on a CAW project, and have restarted from scratch several times [thinking the error must be mine!] but when I get so far into the project CAW keeps crashing, often as soon as it is loaded. The fact that everything went smoothly until my world got to a certain size seemed to fit with the notion that CAW wasn't able to handle the data [mine is only a medium world, too!] The most consistent error I got was the 'Exception Information: Attempted to read or write.

Corrupt' I followed your instructions re. Large Address Aware, restarted and, just like magic CAW works!

Went to Edit in Game. Placed 4 community rabbitholes and built two community lots and it saved, returned to CAW with no probs, and I just can't believe it!

I am sooooo happy! So, simsample, Thank you! Good thing it got left new version of CAW is gone apparently, well at least to the direct links.

Never got around to to testing that had the idea that my CAW trick could be applied to other uses in my head, so I had at it. Total rewrite on my post including, a working workaround for any EP and CAW, not sure but I think I did good:p Ack!

I'm getting confused:wtf: I uninstalled the caw version 1.11.12 I had installed right when the new version came out, and downloaded the latest one from the the Sims 3 website, installed, and it still says version 1.11.12 Is this the new version, they just did not change the version number, or what? I need to upload the new one and change out the 1.11.12 link I have posted if that's the case, I don't want people downloading the old broken one.

As it is now, that particular version has over 800 downloads. (I'm not sure why since it's supposed to be the same as is available on the Sims 3 site.). Right I need help and please in not too technical language because I don't have a degree in IT:) all I try to do is to get my stupid CAW working. I'm trying to get my caw to work and it just simply won't. At first my EIG wouldn't work, so I tried Zaide_Chris's quickfix and EIG opened without problems. However when I did try to open my world again in CAW it told me 'cannot open file'.

I'm assuming you do not have town life, so I'll tell you the same thing I just posted in another thread. A lot of people have had an issue with the town life patch, and most of them have been resolved by using Kiritra's method of changing the caw versions.

In this thread If I were you I'd install the latest version of caw, and do this workaround. It really only takes a few minutes to do a reinstall of Caw, clearing your cache files in between. This thread has the same workaround with pictures.

Simsample may have better advice, but this is what I would do.:). I have all the EP's, and SP's, but from what I understand, if you don't have Generations, unless your game is not fully patched, you need Caw version 1.11.12, (most recent), and the EIG workaround. The EIG batch file Zaide_Chris made is perfect. Now for the no Town Life workaround, again Caw version 1.11.12, and Kiritra's workaround. Unless I'm confused, this should work. Oh, ya, you must cross your fingers, and knock on wood, tap your heels together three times, and repeat the phrase, 'I just want my Caw to work... I just want my Caw to work....

I just want my Caw to work.... I have a little problem that I don't think has been addressed, and I don't want to make a thread just for it,so I'm asking here. Lately when I'm in CAW Norton has been giving me a high CPU usage alert, and it says that CAW is using 100% of one CPU. That's pretty scary to me. So what do I do? Has anyone else had this occur? I have a AMD Athlon II X4 processor 2.80 GHz.

I get it all the time. Don't know if I should, but I just ignore it. I'm running on my laptop, Intel Core 2 Duo, P7350 2.00GHz, 4.00GB ram and my PC, Core i5-650 Dual-Core 3.2GHz 8GB ram I get the message on both. Alright.ready to scream here! Since the Generations patch, CAW refused to open for me.

So, as suggested, backed up the user stuff, and uninstalled and reinstalled, but now I get the message, 'Your currently installed version of the game is not compatible with Create-A-World. You must reinstall Create-A-World. First, back up your world files and uninstall Create-A-World. Then, download the new version of Create-A-World, and install the new version.'

But I JUST did that! Am I getting an old version somehow, instead of the latest one? I got it from the link in the first post, that goes to the Sims 3 site. Also, I JUST updated the game manually, using the supposedly latest patch, even though I already had it. Did that, backed up CAW, uninstalled it, reinstalled with the 'latest', and now it doesn't like me.

Well, still, but at least now I get an error message, instead of the nothing I was getting. I do NOT have Generations yet, and this issue is the main reason for that. Have Ambitions and Late Night expansions, though. Totally frustrated here, beyond frustrated.have a great world almost done, and can't finish it since this issue started.

Danilosim, try this, which was mentioned in the first post: CAW opening screen flashes, but CAW will not run: JadedSidhe advises a solution to this problem in this post. (Running the CAW executable as an administrator will bypass any UAC restrictions which cause this problem. Another way of preventing this issue would be to install your CAW tool and the Sims 3 game to a non-default location, for example C: Games. This would ensure that UAC does not affect the running of your game.

If that doesn't work, try some of the other things in the first post: Clear Caches Remove in-game CC Check patch levels Make the CAW executable Large Address Aware (if you have more than 2Gb RAM) Check for Version Mismatch Error Details for all of those things are in the first post, with links.:). This may be a not-so-common problem to every CAW-sters. Well mine, whenever I click the icon of Edit-in-game, the screen where we edit the world turns blue for about a second or two, then, it shows up the world again. When it is supposed to turn black for it to load the game itself, mine just shows up the world again and the same menus.

I don't know if there's something wrong with my game or with CAW. I already updated CAW to patch 1.13 something something. I already have the complete set of Sims 3 (from Stuff Packs to Expansion Packs). I'm happy I created my first world yet I can't edit it in-game. I don't know if I'm just impatient or what but nothing shows up.

Please, anybody knows how to fix this?! I just don't get it and now I'm getting really tired that it’s making it seem even more confusing. Originally I just want to change one or two things in the pre-made sunset valley town that I like to play with because it wouldn't let me place a lot where I wanted to, which I've only had this problem since I brought generations, ambitions and late night. So I'm wandering it had something to do with that? But then I thought that maybe I could use create a world and change a few more things but when I loaded the down all the buildings and trees and such; a sided from the roads were missing so I thought I'd use the base layout and make my own town to my liking but I soon learnt to save after every little thing I changed as it kept on and off coming up with Crashing errors, Saving Errors and Loading Errors and I've been tiring to read things on how to fix this but it just going it one ear and out the other. I just don't get it. And now I can't even open my back-ups.

=( Can someone PLEASE help me? I'm going home to sleep now and de-stress but it would be really awesome if someone could help and then maybe I can fix it tomorrow. Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place, this is the first time I've had to write in this site.

Well, I'm not sure if this is right but this is what I found in regard to my version of sims. As for the problems I've had, I've seen all of these.

I've had it crash more often then I'd like. And I've had this 50% of the times I try to save, sorry borrow this from the first post as I can't open my town at all now. I get this when I open any of my files but when I open the pre-made sunset valley, then I get a blank town like this. And is I don't get the file loading error above which still allows me to edit my town then I get this below which doesn’t allow me to open my file at all. Thanks for trying to help me.

Hope I can fix it soon. CAW will flash then nothing happens, I've tried to run as admin and went to advanced settings so caw would always run as admin but still nothing.

My virtual memory exceeds 200 MB and I've tried to update CAW but since I have pets I'm not sure what CAW needs to be updated to. I also uninstalled all of my sim games except the base game then re-installed them, I also uninstalled and re installed CAW using auntielynds latest version.

I also don't have any caches and all of my mods are in a folder on my desktop. Thanks in advanced. Haha I figured it out not sure exactly how or if this works for others but it did for me so I'll post it. Oh and the caw opening screen would flash open for me then close and nothing would happen and I tried run as admin but it didn't work.

Sorry I can't post pics not sure how to do that either. But anyway what I did was I moved my saved game and mods on to my desktop, then I I deleted all of my sim games and caw I then deleted all of the caches, then since on my computer you can open the start up menu and search for what ever you want I looked for everything sim related and caw related except for my saved game and mods and deleted it. Everhot 204 Deluxe Manual Meat.

Then a searched for caches there are caches on your computer that aren't just in the game folder and caw folder so I deleted those also. I then restarted my computer and ran disk clean up and then disk defragment, then I re downloaded my games (in order of what came out first) having the folders saved under C: Program Files (x86) Acer Games then I opened firefox (not sure why it matters but someone on the origin help told me to do it) and went to the sims website and downloaded caw and saved it under C: Program Files (x86) Acer Games as well. And it works, sorry if this is vague but I just kind of stumbled on it, not really sure what I did.

But I thought I would let all of you know in case it helps you. Zaidee, you need to patch Ambitions, Late Night and WA: Then download and install the latest version of CAW. Then check your game versions as in this thread: [Shelly1991 I'm helping in that thread instead of this one] ruffdog24- basically what you did was to make sure your game was fully updated and to run the latest version of CAW, and delete all caches as mentioned in the first post. The other caches you mention could have been in your Virtual Store, or perhaps they were in a shared library. Well done for getting it to work! Well this is I guess an old problem with CAW and there are a lot of solutions mentioned, but before I try them all I'd gladly know which one could actually solve the problem.

I'd be really thankful for any help, because I've been working on my world for half a year and now after buying new expatiation packs I can't finish it. I had Sims 3 Deluxe + WA. I already had to fix CAW when I bought the game, because Generations where out, but I didn't have it. Somehow I got CAW to work, but it crashed (corrupt memory message) - most likely it did so when I tried to save it after using sculpt or painting. It worked fine with objects and trees and didn't give me any error messages. Recently I added Late Night, Generations and Pets to my game.

I guess I have latest version of game with all the patches even thought I'm not that sure how and where to check it. Because I didn't update the game until the moment when I added new the expansion packs.

I reinstalled and installed from new CAW. It opened and I was happy, because lat time it didn't. CAW works, but it doesn't let me do anything with the world I'm working on. The world is large and has a lot of objects already, but I guess it shouldn't be the problem. It crashes when I try to use sculpt.

It also crashes when I try to save my game. I have Windows 7 (32 bits) and 4 GB RAM. I have mods for my sims, but I take them out every time I run CAW and delete the catch files, so it shouldn't be the case. I don't know how it is with other CC, that doesn't appear in MODS folder. It wouldn't be nice to start everything from new and I'm not sure if it will work even than. So I'll be thankful for any help what to do first, because reinstalling and installing game didn't work for me last time, it just eats away time. I also couldn't open EIG, but I have no idea if it works, because I can't really work with my world for now.

Forstbergs13, first thing to do is to backup your files, and then you won't lose anything. Copy Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 3 and Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 3 Create A World Tool to a safe place. Next thing I would check is your install location. I would advise to install in a folder you have created yourself rather than in the Program Files folder. This is because UAC is active on the system folders, so installing to a location such as C: Games makes sure that UAC will not interfere.

Then, check that you have made your version of CAW Large Adress Aware, so that it can use your 4Gb RAM. There are instructions and links for this in the first post. Check that your Sims 3 game is fully updated- we have found in some cases that the patch levels of the expansion packs matter for CAW, so patch them all and then we can rule that out as being a problem. Be aware that the Launcher will only patch the basegame and your last EP.

There are links to our patch tutorials and the EA patch downloads in the first post. Once you are fully patched check your versions in the default.ini files, to make sure that CAW is fully reading all of the game files. To do this, follow the link in the first post to kiritra's game compatibility versions guide, which is under the title 'Version Mismatch Error'. The problems you are having (EIG not working, sudden CAW crashes) are usually all solved by following those steps.

My big problem seems to only be when trying to edit a pre-pets, prepopulated neighborhood in EIG with CAW- I have a large island I made quite some time ago, and I wanted to add Pets lots to spots I'd left empty for them, and Pets items to other lots- then planned to Porter in pets or add pets once things were figured out as to how- however, even just altering/building lots- even just community lots and NOT houses people live in, I get a save error in EIG, (with or without CAW still in bg). If I had CAW shut down while in EIG, I then get the error message about cannot open package (suddenly can't remember the actual wording and forgot to screencap last time I tried) If CAW was running, I get the 'CAW has crashed, memory may be corrupt' message as soon as it tries to wake up. This ONLY happens with that one, prepopulated world, and I am hoping desperately I don't have to re-port and re-populate every Sim the hard way- since I don't think I could get my hands on all the service Sims I made again. Anyone have any suggestions/thoughts? Oh and respectively I have tried on both Win7 64-bit and Win XP 32-bit (desktop and laptop) and both machines have 4GB of RAM, and this world IS one that was taking over 30 minutes to save at all in EIG mode by the time I was done with it. I added generations stuff to community lots fine, and unoccupied lots when that came out, but Pets is breaking it even just trying with those- I am able to work with new worlds, and unoccupied worlds easily. This seems to be a common problem with user populated worlds, there doesn't seem to be a successful way to edit them.

I'm seeing people mention this on the thread about opening pre-packed worlds too, so it seems to be something inherent with pre-populated worlds which is unstable. The corrupt memory message seems to mean that CAW has basically run out of memory because you're asking it to do something impossible. Is this also meaning porting/populating worlds anew is also borked? I do have an unpopulated version, but if I can't even repopulate and save it in EIG once, no sense bothering to reopen.

(Also now worried about plans for current projects in progress.). Hi:) Do you know how to delete the premade sims I imported with a world while importing a whole world (sunset valley)? I think they are giving me some problems. I tought about modifying the global layer.layer file, but hey: no idea what to touch there.!

I think they cause me a load error after entering the EIG, because they were located in a lot before I deleted it, then they just remained on the ground, waiting. They all are 'Objects' in the Global Layer and I can't delete them manually. Any suggest will be so highly appreciated!

Thank you )). Is this also meaning porting/populating worlds anew is also borked? I do have an unpopulated version, but if I can't even repopulate and save it in EIG once, no sense bothering to reopen. (Also now worried about plans for current projects in progress.) No, probably not- I've just noticed that a lot of people are having trouble editing premade worlds made with previous patch versions when they are user populated. There must be something about the process which CAW does not like.

With the EA populations, it seems that the actual sim resources are present in the world file but the sim personality and family data is loaded from XML when you start the world, so perhaps this is the problem. Kchaos, your best bet is to use a mod like Awesome to destroy the sims.

Don't manually delete global layer objects as some are not related to the sim population. Please post any more issues regarding opening packed worlds here: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=447707. This tends to be associated with having one or more expansions out of date, or else perhaps your computer isn't powerful enough or maybe Windows is creating a file lock.

Things you can try are: 1) Patch all EPs and Sps, then check your game compatibility versions (as linked in Post #1 under 'Version Mismatch Error'). Also redownload and reinstall the latest version of CAW to make sure you have the correct one. 2) Try closing CAW by clicking the 'x' button, after you have launched EIG mode.

That will release the file lock. Otherwise, try this batch file to launch EIG: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=453161.

The problems you are having (EIG not working, sudden CAW crashes) are usually all solved by following those steps. I realized I didn't come back to thank you, because finally everything worked. The problem was with LAA. Last time I did it, but I didn't make that last step, where you need to modify computer settings as well.

I did everything and now it even loads EIG without any additional steps, since I also have all extent ion packs. My world was saved, thank you:) Oh, and what is even cooler, I don't have to take out my CC every time I load CAW or delete any catch files.:). Ok I'm Not the smartest person when it comes to technical stuff, So.ok I have: base game, world adventures, ambitions, fast lane, late night, generations and pets. First off Pets was a waste of money. So I uninstalled it. And the computer reads fast lane as High-end loft stuff?

And when i re-install everything. Once I put Fast lane nothing else works. So now I just have World adventures and base game and it's gonna stay that way. And I have patch update 2.17. So I go to install CAW works fine.

Go to run it, 'The sims 3 game data was not found. The sims 3 Create a world Beta-tool may not function properly.' And 'The sims 3 Create a world Beta-tool has Crashed! Exception information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.'

Note: all started when a virus destroyed nearly the whole computer and I had to uninstall everything. And I have deleted all the Cache files, and World tooluser data. I am about ready to use my game as a Frisbee. Another problem I've been having is the game does what CAW was doing; starting, going black then disappearing.

The only way I manage to play is uninstall then re-install every time I wanna play! I'm also still waiting, @Mcwarhappy - for the corrected picture link - it is broken. Didn't test it out? It gives a 403 error from the start.so we've no idea what the error is, and hard to troubleshoot blindly in the dark, you know?:) Please provide your base game + CAW version numbers.

@aj_kitten, when did you get that error? At what specific point?

At the choosing of Heightmaps when you clicked on Create New World or upon saving it? What does this even mean?

And what in the world am I supposed to do to fix it? I hear there's this new-fangled internet technology that is supposed to be your best friend.it didn't give any useful answers?;) Well, one of the search results I clicked on mentioned about folders and file permissions. So, apart from the questions above, also let us know - where CAW is installed to: Default Program Files path or a custom one? - can the Heightmaps in the Document path be opened in an Image Editor program like Photoshop/Fireworks/Gimp?

- if the error occurs during saving, what was the filename you used? - what version is your base game and CAW, anyway?

- what version is your base game and CAW, anyway? I've tried installing it in the default and custom but im always getting different error messages. The generic error message came right after I tried to open a height map in order to start a new world. So I really can't get anything done at all. Then sometimes it tells me its own files are PNG format *rolls eyes* but I can open then in other programs just fine. Sometimes I get the regular old corrupted data error.I wish it would just make up its mind about what it doesn't want to do.

I've downloaded the newest version of CAW and my game is completely up to date. The only expansion I don't have is the master suite stuff. Mcwarhappy- The CAW tool is a beta tool- EA have not released a non-beta version. Have you fully patched your game, downloaded the latest version of CAW, made it Large Address aware and tested with fresh user files and no mods, as in the first post? Aj_kitten- And you have your sims games installed to Program Files or Program Files(x86)? This sounds like UAC may be interfering, can you test it with UAC temporarily disabled, just to see if it works? Nephie8- Do you mean that the tools do not show on the user interface, or that you cannot see the tool footprint on your terrain in CAW?

Can you please show a screenshot? EDIT: Ah, you deleted your post, does that mean you fixed it?:). Hey guys, I hope this isn't stupid. Haha Running Windows 7 - not sure if this is necessary but I feel like more info is better than not enough. Ok so I just downloaded Showtime from Origin - I have all expansions plus HELS and OLS (all downloaded through Origin), I'm patched up to Version 1.33 I backed up my world before installing Showtime. Immediately after installing Showtime, I tried to open CAW (not my actual world file, just the program itself) just to make sure everything worked fine. It won't open: the little title screen flashes and then disappears and.

No error messages, no actual program opening then crashing, just nothing. So I was thinking that maybe I had an out of date version of CAW or whatever, so I downloaded CAW again from the official site today, and same problem. I've tried everything in the first post of this thread, running as administrator, clearing caches (I tried to clear the VirtualStore caches too but I don't have an Electronic Arts folder in that folder, so.), I have no CC in any game folders since I just installed, I have no idea what to do. I've searched all over this site, the official site, Google, what have you.

I'm actually a bigger fan of CAW than the game itself so I'm really hoping that this can be fixed. Worst comes to worst, I'll just uninstall Showtime but I really don't want to do that since I just bought it yesterday. Anybody have any ideas?? WOW ok I'm an idiot. While going through Program Files to get the skuversions, I realized that my games aren't installed in the Electronic Arts directory, they're installed in the Origin Games directory. When I first installed Showtime, CAW was out of date so it wouldn't start. Then when I reinstalled the newer version of CAW, I installed it to the default Electronic Arts directory, not the Origin Games directory because I completely forgot, so then it wouldn't start.

UGH just uninstalled and reinstalled CAW in my Origin Games directory and it's up and running right now! Thank you so much for your help! All right - I've been reading at least pieces of this thread, and nothing had worked for me so far. I keep getting the message that the system memory has crashed. I get the memory error screen ('Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.' ) every time I attempt to save or use edit in game mode.

I have tried everything mentioned in the original post of this thread. I especially had high hopes for the LAA, but that didn't work either. I have all the expansion packs, my game is fully patched, and I just re-downloaded CAW from the Sims 3 website this morning. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm having some troubles and I've yet to see anyone else with anything similar, so I thought I'd ask. CAW keeps crashing for me. It doesn't just crash to desktop, it crashes completely, turning off my computer. Now, this happened on The Sims 3 whenever I first got it, and we figured it was overheating, so I've kept my computer opened up with a fan blowing next to it every time I play, which has worked flawlessly every single time. Yesterday I wasn't even playing the game, I was just in CAW, and I had my fan on, but it crashed completely. I thought maybe I had just done something too fast or I put too many trees or something so I deleted some stuff and worked slower, but it managed to crash three or four more times in less than two hours. I looked into the Large Address Aware thing, but supposedly it should already be large address aware since my game has the most recent patch.

I don't know if it helps at all, but I am running Windows Vista and the only EP/SP I have is the Loft Stuff pack. If anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it. Edit: I made CAW large address aware just to be safe.

But it did nothing.:(. IM not sure if this particular problem with CAW is addressed so Ill ask.

I will be trying to create a new world. WIll be adding hills. Then all of a sudden. The lil circle (the brush) disapears and I can no longer do anything with the modify terain tool. Weather its sculpting. Only thing I can do is start over. Even if I try to save that file.

And re open it. When I reopen it its still borked. The program itself continues to run. So I can go into the file menu and just start a new world. But having to start over from scratch is a pain. I never get very far.

BTW I have base game. Ambitions, world adventures, and late night. And it is all updated. I just downloaded and installed the 1.11.12 version of the CAW but it still happens. ( thought when I look at the version in CAW under About>version it says0.1.0.27? Even though I JUST NOW installed the 1.11.12.) found another problem. I cant paint routing.

It just wont work at all. Even when the rest does. The routing brush is working. I just cant SEE the blue. But showing routing data and rebuilding routing data shows that it is working. I did find that if I move my camera closer. I can see the blue.

Which is kinda annoying. Hi there, I am having an error in CAW EIG. I'm a novice CAW user, who has been able to successfully modify the Sunset Valley Lite file to something I quite like, but has never succeeded in building a world from scratch.

I am now attempting to do so, but I'm running into problems. The planning going into my world is incredible. I've written sheets on what I want, so that I can have a clear idea of what I'm heading for. Sketches and notes clutter my desk. Right now, I'm onto the feasibility test. I.E, placing the lots and roads, painting the terrain, inputting objects, just so that I can see how much room I'm going to need and what things to avoid, making notes of lot sizes that I'll need, etc. I'm not sculpting the terrain yet, because I'm unsure just how much room I'm going to need.

I've only placed a few lots (less than 10), and some roads in a grid structure in the south of what will be the city centre. My problem occurs when I place a block's worth of roading (three lengths to make up the square that already has one length on it) around 4 lots that I've created. I can continue editing my town in CAW, but when I run EIG Mode, it starts to have problems. The 'Showtime' Expansion Screen will load as normal, and it will come up with the watermark screen, showing the tips and tricks, before suddenly quitting and coming up with the error 'The Sims 3 has encountered a problem and needs to close.' I tried deleting the lots, and running it, same problem. I tried deleted the roads, no problem.

Can anybody please shed some light on this? Edit: I've also tried the Large Address Aware solution and still no luck:(.

Peteypoptart--It seems to me that this may be a simple routing problem, stemming from the fact that you have tried add roads AFTER you have already placed the lots. That can be done, but it can be really 'iffy.' Generally speaking, you should add your roads BEFORE you add your lots, and you should probably have the grid on, in both cases. That way, your lots will line up correctly with the roads. Without causing the game (or Edit in Game) to go nuts trying to figure out what your routing is supposed to be. :help::!: Hi guys!

So i tried everything you said and my CAW still doesnt work:cry: Basically my game version is 12.0.273.015001 I have all EP's up to showtime and also fastlane:) What happens is i click the Shortcut to CAW and the loader thingie pops up and then simply closes with no actual message telling me the problem -_- Any ideas how i can solve it? Thanks:!: Did you uninstall, clean out all your caches, and your virtual memory, run a registry cleaner, like this free one I like, then reinstall? This is what cleared up the problem for me Here's the link for how to do your virtual memory This tut says to go to: Program Files (x86) Electronic Arts, but you may need to go to: Program Files (x86) Origins Games Depending if you have a digital download of the game, or installed it with a CD. Simsample or someone else here may have some better info to help you. Try this, then let us know if it worked.:).

I had LAA problem and I thought I solved the crashing problem when I made CAW LAA. I was painting-sculpting my world, experimenting with textures. Nothing crashed. However, I decided to change something in my world, started the painting from new. I added some new textures.

I played around with road textures and at one point CAW crashed. Now I'm trying to paint my world, but it keeps crashing once in a while - either when I save the game or just randomly, giving that message I had before making it LAA. I cleaned caches everywhere, I also run it with no CC.

I also noticed that it crashes after I edit layers, try to change colors. Is it possible that some textures cause the crash? Maybe they are not right? Maybe some I used in the roads? Is there any way to find out which color it is? Thanks thanks thanks for any help. On the first page: 06.

Tried going back to the other world. Did all changes but when i save this comes up. I've been getting this error since the night before Patch 1.38 was released, and I've done the LAA thing on CAW.exe ages ago. I was working on the Store worlds' routing when suddenly clicking on 'Show Routing Data' would trigger this error message and crashed CAW.

So, after various troubleshooting access permissions and user security levels, redoing LAA, and numerous uninstalls and reinstalls of different CAW versions, with and without CC, I finally found the trigger. I had used Junctions to link to the DCBackup folder in /Doc/EA/The Sims 3 in /Program Files(x86)/EA/TS3CAWTool/Packages, so I don't have duplicate folders and files on my system.

Removing CAW CC removed the error. So I removed the Junction and copy+pasted the DCBackup and that also removed the error. I don't know what changed (on my system to not make Junctions work anymore), because AFAIK I have not let Windows Updates run, no system changes within days of TS3's patch and EP release cycles is my policy.

Last Windows Update on my machine was 8/24. This hypothesis is confirmed when I tested with Moonlight Falls before I had a chance to go out and get Supernatural (in the last 2 days). Someone send me the world file, thinking to give me a head start on the routing fixes, and just to see the amount of work involved if any is required. And when I loaded the file in CAW, some stuff remains black as expected (like new trees and RabbitHoles and other new objects) and when I clicked 'Show Routing Data', again that Protected Memory error pops up.

It kinda makes sense that the program not being able to calculate data on routing because the world CC is not in CAW's memory would trigger this error message. So, TL;DR; This error does not necessarily mean that you need to do LAA, especially if it has already been done. As the first step to troubleshooting states: always check your CC!:).

Hello, I also do have a problem with EIG. Even after I tried out all the steps and solutions posted here. I'm creating a medium sized world. I worked on it for some weeks and I placed roads and lots with the CAW tool.

I also managed to place some houses on the lots with the EIG. The houses were pre-built and I just added them. When I tried the same yesterday, it worked fine. Only half an hour later when I started CAW and EIG again, EIG crashed. I placed some houses from the bin to my lots made in CAW, saved it in EIG.

And then, from one hour to the other, EIG crashed without an explanation. It only said that it isn't working correctly and will now be closed. I tried to edit a plain world with only one lot on it in EIG and it worked fine. My world doesn't have that much lots (maybe around 30) and what confuses me is that it worked fine for hours and weeks and from one moment to the other it crashes in that specific world. Unfortunately, I don't have any backup data from the time when it worked fine:(. Is there a way to manualy install a custom world from CAW w/o packaging it and then using.sims3package to install it?

Reason being is that any world I try to export and install goes through the motions but does not actualy install. I am completely up to date on all patches, uninstalled and reinstalled caw and like I said it exports the world just fine and allow me to double click on the.sims3package and goes through the motionis of installing but doesn't actualy install the world. If I knew where to place what files where I could just manualy move the files needed and not have to deal wth the the frustrating installer. I have problem with saving world from EIG. It crashes to the desktop at the last moment and windows says that there is an error with TS3W.exe and something with MSVCR80.dll (i've tried to reinstall Framewor, but it didn't help). Crash log analyzer says I need to have 4+ GB RAM, but i already have 8GB, it should be enought.

I've found that there is no problem when i create new world and save it, so it's something with my world. Can anyone help me to find out what is the problem and check my world in other computer?

It's 107 Mb in.rar the settings file, I've forgot it (and here is all the custom stuff I have for CAW- airport and riverport (I've tried all the things written in the first post, but it continues to crash( My system: Intel core i5 3.30 GHz, Nvidia GeForce 560 Ti 2048. I've got 8Gb RAM, 24Gb of virtual memory (8 on system, 8 on game and 8 on program HDD). Hi, installed LAA, but it doesn't work. Same thing as usual: evertime I add some houses from the bin in EIG and save in EIG, it crashes without an explanation. It only sais that EIG isn't working correctly.

I'm having the same problem. I've updated to 1.42.130 in game and I've got CAW 1.18.56. I've only just started with CAW so it's a clean install and the world I'm editing is SunsetValley_Lite.

I can open the world fine, edit it in CAW, and go into EIG okay. The problem occurs after I save in EIG. After I save, I can no longer open the same world in EIG again. It doesn't matter if I've made no edits. The act of saving in EIG seems to corrupt the world so I can no longer EIG again, even though CAW will still open the file. EDIT #1: I've just tried with RiverView_Lite, no edits made, and I get the same problem.

I also tried with a blank, brand new flat, blank map -- and it DIDN'T CRASH! It was totally unedited though. Maybe all I need to do is add some lots or roads to get it to crap out again.:faceslap: EDIT #2: Added a lot, a road, and a Butterfly Dome on my new, blank map and it crashed after saving in and trying to reopen in EIG.:help: Edit #3: Reinstalled my game, all EPs, and started completely clean without CC. Reinstalled CAW, too. Still crashing when I try to reopen worlds in EIG that were saved in EIG.

I also can't install any of these worlds into my game after export. The launcher will tell me they've installed correctly but they don't show up under the installed lots tab or in game. I've been able to install other people's worlds, however. I'm using Windows 7, 6GB RAM, and an Nvidia GTX 275. Hi there, My EIG doesn't work. Every time I click it, the world screen will go black as if it's about to load and the cursor will change to the TS3 cursor, but after a few seconds it'll just change back to what it's like in regular CAW. Is this about the 1.42 patch not letting CAW read the new exe file?

My game is already patched to 1.42, so with the link you have here (would I still have to patch again even though my game isn't going from 1.39 to 1.42? I'm a bit confused. I don't know if this is anything that can be helped but I've tried every way of troubleshooting possible, removed CC, done clean installs etc, LAA'd the game and CAW, de-LAA'd the game and CAW, DEP'd and without DEP, however I have a persistant error of Edit in Game not even loading to the seasons loading screen and just crashing affecting all worlds I've created, even brand new worlds with no road etc. Boy_Wonder, does it work if you use this batch file? Have you tried it with a fresh set of user files for both the game and CAW, and with no custom content installed? What is your Sims 3 gameversion and your CAW gameversion?

List the gameversion for each EP and Sp, too. Is there any way of patching each EP without reinstall everything? So I've been working on a world for awhile now, and when I'm in EIG it crashes, I've tried all of the work arounds to fix the game which work but than non of my custom content shows up in EIG which would be fine but I've used a ton of it in my world. So I exported my world and started building my lots in game, and low and behold my game crashes. My sister was able to play the game no problem, however she wasn't using my world. I do have a some custom content which seems to be conflicting with itself, and since there skylights which I've used quite a bit I can't exactly fix it with going lot by lot.

I do wonder if it's because of the amount of objects on each lot, my computer was bought last June and is pretty powerful though. Thanks for the help, if you need any other info let me know. Boy_Wonder, the wiki seems to be down for me at the moment, but no, you don't have to reinstall to patch the EPs. There are links in the patch table I linked to previously- you just have to look at 2010/ 2011 patch tables to see them. Then, download them and apply them.

Backup first as always; when the wiki works again I'll be able to look to see if your graphics card is supported! Ruffdog24, the CC not showing up in EIG is normal- it's a known issue, you just need to build the lots in-game and then add them in EIG. If the world is crashing in-game also, then check that you don't have CC attached to the world in the Sims3pack itself- check it with CUSTARD. If thee is CC in the Sims3Pack then remove your DCBackup folder temporarily, and export the world again.

Also, what are your system specs? Are you fully patched? Post your Gameversions, as Boy_Wonder did. Boy_Wonder, the wiki seems to be down for me at the moment, but no, you don't have to reinstall to patch the EPs.

Are you fully patched? Post your Gameversions, as Boy_Wonder did. I patched fully up, and the oddness is up until very recently (as in up until the back end of December when this problem started) everything worked fine, fully patched, all expansion packs and everything.

From what I've found browsing system requirements on the sims 3 forum the graphics card should be supported Windows Supported Video Cards ----------------------------- NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) series FX5900 or greater G 100, GT 120, GT 130, GTS 150 GTS 250, GTX 260, GTX 275, GTX 280, GTX 285, GTX 295 * Please note that the GeForce 6100 and 7100 cards are not supported. @Boy_Wonder- According to Ellacharmed's charts, your card isn't strong enough for the later EPs, so that could be why you are having trouble loading EIG. Every EP adds to the overhead that the game commands, so this could be why it's stopped working recently. @ruffdog24- your graphics card has 'No' across the board: Meaning there must be some incompatibility with that and the Sims 3. That could explain some of your problems. From what I've seen, building does seem particularly memory intensive in CAW (possible because the game has to store every action so that you can 'undo' it). So perhaps saving often and rebooting the game periodically would help you.

For the CC, remember that worlds will always show up in red ('corrupt') in CUSTARD, that is not a problem. But it's not desirable to have items packed in with the Sims3Pack. This may explain what I mean: Using CC shouldn't be a problem though, but remember that if you have a lot of CC you are increasing the game overhead. Also, faulty CC can cause the game to use excessive resources: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Package_File_Lag.

OK think I need soome help or at least I'm sure I'm in need of help before i start to cry. I have a world i have been working on it a lot of time because it is one thing my heart needed to do for sims, and everything worked well until tonight.

I just finished my 'In Game' Styling time i finished a Vampire Lounge after 5 Hours working on it, and then i wanted to do some lots in the CAW itself, because I'm doing it the way i need it. (Before i did I made a new save, i'm doing 2 or 3 different saves at one day because i know about the crap that can happen with the damn CAW etc.) well when i was doing the Lots marking thing, it started to crash, i'd reload and made another new file after i finished the Lot thingy and then I wanted to have a look at in in the in game stuff. Yes I got an Error Message while loading it, only choice was to end it, then i reloaded the CAW and tried to load my world in and i got error message, i got error message with every file I tried to load, even with a clean folder without any DL's in it. It's the same like mentoined in post 66 does anyone have a clue how i could fix it and to make CAW open my world again, i don't care if its opening the latest file, since i have some more i could use instead, but i don't want to loose it all in the end.:). I found another cause of crashings and its solution. So, I had the CAW Defogger overrride by auntielynds, and while working on Lunar Lakes, I had forgotten to remove the _INI resources that contain the Fog data, and I get this error: Notice the error of '7' exceeding the Maximum while the Cloudiness slider is all the way to the right?

That was my first clue that something is conflicting. After I remove all the _INI resources in the.world file that contains any mention of Fog data, the crashings went away. Abcd Songs Pk Download Video. Surprisingly this issue didn't affect the earlier worlds when I forgot to do the same thing (for Monte Vista and Sunlit Tides), but I did use a newly redownloaded version of Lunar Lakes.

Maybe EA changed something.they do have the tendency of making changes and not advertising that fact, nor what exactly it was that was changed (or require fixing). Hopefully I get a reply. CAW updated fine, and is working perfectly in the actual tool.

But when I go to use Edit in Game, it loads through the first loading screen. Then the next one, that stupid new thing where you can find different items, loads just about all the way to the end with very little left to load. And just sits there. The finder game or whatever you want to call it, shuffles through from 'puzzle to puzzle' and I can click on all the items. But it just won't load past that.

Any one else having this problem? I have a problem that I think is not listed (Or maybe yes, I'm spanish and I may have don't recall it). When I open Edit in Game a black screen appears and my mouse changes to the 'wainting' mode.

After like 30 minutes (if the 'sims 3 has stoped working' menssage doesn't appear) it shows the usual Sims 3 screen of charge, then that new charge screen where you have to found the things the say (maybe 20 minutes together) and then it appears another black screen with a normal mouse. After a lot of time the life mode appears (sometimes it goes back to the black screen without letting me do nothing), I select the 'edit world' option and it goes back to the frst black screen with the 'wainting' mouse. I have tried a docen of times, and always happens one of these.

I have the lattest patch and the lattest version, windows 8 and (i think) the graphics set on 'high resolution'. I'm dessesperate.

I have waited two moths in order to have a new computer and continue with my custom world, but it seens like I won't be abble. I want to cry.

Edit: Ok, now it doesn't even past that first black screen, exactly half an hour after opening it the 'sims 3 has stoped working' menssage appears. Even my game. It keep that screen for hours, without showing the intro. Maybe is the resolution? There is any way to change it without entering the game? CAW was working fine.

Then quit for the night, came back 3 nights later. Try to launch CAW. Get clueless error that CAW has unexpectedly quit. Have added nothing to game or CAW. Fully updated.

Version #'s match in both default ini's. Have deleted all caches, including world cache. Game is running fine. Took the Sims 3 folder from documents and moved to desktop. Launched Sims 3 and reset the options.

This was done to remove any and all custom content and packages. Game loaded and ran fine. Then tried CAW. Get error just as the CAW splash comes up.

Followed all info for correcting. Nothing works. Very weird, since it was working fine. Using 1.67 version, which is game version.

Caw default ini: GameVersion = 1.19.6.024037 CompatVersion = 24 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 21 Base game default ini: GameVersion = 1.67.2.024017 CompatVersion = 24 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 21 Also did try changing the CAW game version to 1.67.2.024017 as base is. Still get crash. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Just got back into Sims 3 after a year away.

Have about 12 hrs of work into a custom world. First test I would try would be to run with a fresh set of CAW userdata (assuming you haven't already). So, drag the Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 3 Create A World Tool folder to the desktop (or another safe place) and run CAW.

If that does not work, also test this fresh set of userdata with your CAW CC removed (as well as the game CC removed). Have you installed anything in the last three days on your computer? Windows updates, antivirus updates? Do you have CAW installed to the default location (Program Files/ Electronic Arts)? If so then your installation will be virtualised, so try clearing the virtual store: C: Users AppData Local VirtualStore Program Files (x86) Electronic Arts. I would always recopmmend to install both CAW and Sims 3 to a custom location (for example, C: Games) to avoid virtualisation.

Thanks for very fast reply. 1) Already did a move of my Sims 3 folder in documents to desktop. Started sims launcher. Set options for sound and video.

Closed the game. Did not start a game. Just to point where you chose. Then tried CAW. 2) Did a clean install of CAW.

After uninstall made sure that all Caw data was gone from computer. My userdata folder was backed to another location. Also checked AppData and ProgramData for anything CAW related and deleted. Also checked registery to make sure keys gone. Then did a clean install. Have not put my backed up UserData in yet.

So doing a clean start. As for separate locations.

I have 2 standard hard drives and 1 SSD. My system is installed to SSD. And I have 'D' drive set as the default program install.

Then I have all static items, documents, video, music, pics, etc. Going to 'B' drive by default.

All defaults set at system level. So 'C' drive has only the windows folder on it. Also set CAW to require admin. And ran the large memory aware on CAW.

System info: Win 7 x64, AMD quad 4.3, 16gb DDR3, 4gb DDR5 Nvidea. Have neither added to or removed anything from game or CAW.

The only thing that changed was an Nvidea driver update. But that shouldn't be the issue. Since game still works fine. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but this has me really confused. Which is actually a normal state of mind for me.;}.

@sweetpoyzin I agree with what TwistedMaster said.:) @TwistedMaster So you have definitely eliminated the cause of this as being userdata, which is a good start. So your CAW is installed to the D drive? Is that a UAC protected location? I'm trying to rule that out. No UAC on 'D'. But, I have gone to properties and set program to run as admn. Also just did a roll back of system to point before Nvidia update.

This is becoming really, really confusing. How can something work, then just decide not to.

Have had no Windows updates lately. Firefox updated a few days ago. Nothing else has updated. Didn't make any changes to game or CAW. The world I'm creating has been working.

But since I have done a clean installed and ran with only default UserData. And TS3 documents has only the default folders files. And the default ini files of CAW and S3 match. Did LMA on CAW. This has me really scratching my head, can make no sense of it.

Note: I did check AppData virtual store. There is no folder file associated with CAW or S3 in there.

Also did a manual update check of game, though it is set to auto update. Says game fully up to date. Using the 1.67 version of CAW. I'm now leaving this in your hands. Your knowledge is obviously greater than mine. So if you can't figure this, then it ain't gonna get fixed. Makes me a little mad.

Been working on building a custom map and city. Got about 20hrs into it. And all I got now is the incomplete test export to play with. Anyway, thanks again for any and all help you can provide. Better than tell. Here's a screenshot.

With this message in background. The message is what I call a dead end message. Edit: Have checked system update. The last windows update was 4 days prior to this problem.

Checked anti-virus no updates. Added this program location as an exception. So it won't scan CAW install folder. Then ran installer and did a repair. Just in case the anti-virus didn't allow something earlier. Seeing no added files or folder in CAW install folder.

Nvida did an update. So did a system rollback to prior point. Get same error. I admit that I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.

But this makes little to no sense. I agree, it's probably something other than CAW causing issue. But what it is, is the BIG? I wonder if it's something to do with your game install?

After all, CAW does read the Sims 3 install files. Might be an idea to try reinstalling that if you can't think of anything else to try.

Do you have any game mods that involve changing the game install files, or maybe any CC files installed the old way? I'm clutching at straws though- I'm hoping someone else reading this might have a suggestion!:o Since were both grasping at straws. I'm going to do a clean game install. This will probably take a long time. Though it doesn't seem that this is the issue. Since nothing changed in CAW or game. Was working on a custom map.

Had even exported it to test my progress. The export installed fine. And is still working in game. Was working on map in CAW, quit for night.

Came back 2 days later. Tried to launch CAW.

Got the error. No changes made to CAW or game. Is there a location in a file in CAW where logging can be enabled. Would be nice to know a little more than the windows error gives. Already checked all config files within CAW install folder. Found nothing in them.

Give me a couple of days. I'll have everything reinstalled by then. Only have a couple of hours each night to do this. Will let you know results. Edit: Quick off topic? What is a Dev gift. Saw this in a ini file and always wondered what it is.

Hope you can tell me. Update 3 25 2016: Have totally uninstalled Sims 3 base game. Including making sure all traces were removed. Have downloaded through Origin.

Did file verification through Origin. Did update check through Sims launcher. This includes setting my Sims 3 documents folder outside documents.

Ran game redid options for game. All running fine. No mods or custom content installed. Running 'in to the future DLC'.

Then did a clean install of CAW. Also removed all residual files and checked registry.

Reinstalled CAW. Checked both CAW and Sims 'default.ini', versions match.

No CAW folder in documents. Did the memory fix.

Launched CAW. SAME DAMNED ERROR!!! I'm not one for giving up on things. But unless someone can come up with ideas. I have no choice, because this makes 0 sense. And, without a log file, there's no way of finding a solution. I have encountered an error in the CAW, concering the Edit-in-Game tool, that I can't find any information on in this thread.

When I try to start the Edit-in-Game I get an error message that says a serious error has occured and that I am recommended to restart the CAW. Then the game loading bar pops up and I get to the main menu, the screen where you select your World or save game, with Sunset Valley (I have no EP:s installed right now) as the only option and no way to get to to the Edit-in-Game mode. I have tried using the batch file made by Zaide_Chris that Simsample refers to in the first post of this thread, but exactly the same thing happens if I do. The link to the fix by SimAd, mentioned in the same post, is broken. I run the CAW with the 1.69 version of the CAW and the latest game patch 1.17.

It is impossible for me to use any other game patch (or CAW patch) than 1.69. As far as I can tell that is because of the known issue that digital downloads purchased after a certain date in 2012 can't be 'down-patched'. If you have such a digital version the game updates at install, so you will always have the latest version when you first start the game, even if you disable game updates in Origin. It can't be solved using the Super patch, I have tried. I have found information that you can solve this problem by purchasing a pre-2012 disc version of the base game. This is not an option for me since I run the CAW on a Mac with Bootcamp and Windows 10, and my computer has no built in CD-player.

I have no mods installed and I haven't got the final EP or SP (In to the Future and Movie Stuff). I might consider getting them (even if I normally wouldn't) just to use the CAW, since that might help according to the first post in this thread, but I'm uncertain if this will help me, since my problem might be another than the problem of getting to the launcher when you start the Edit-in-Game mode. @TwistedMaster One thing I can think of to try that you may not have already is to add all of your Sims 3 installation files to your antivirus exception locations.

I know you mentioned that you added CAW to this list. Apart from that, you could try running Windows in safe mode and test CAW then. Or alternatively reboot windows into a diagnostic mode, or with all startup programs disabled (you can do this through task manager in Win 10 I think). This could tell us something.:) @Hjommd I've heard others with the 1.69 CAW complaining that EIG will not work.

I'm hoping someone who has some ideas will speak up, because I'm not sure what to advise you here. Well, I just got everything installed on a new computer, and found a problem with the CAW, again. The tool opens fine, but the 'edit in game' will not open. ALl I get is a message that The Sims 3 has stopped working, and no clue as to why.

I have checked the 'compatVersion' and 'WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion', and they seem to match. The base game shows the following information: GameVersion = 1.67.2.024001 CompatVersion = 24 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 21 Latest expansion (Into the Future) shows: GameVersion = 21.0.150.024001 CompatVersion = 24 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 21 The CAW shows: GameVersion = 1.19.6.024037 CompatVersion = 24 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 21 So, the two lines that ought to match, do match. The game loads fine by itself as well, and plays as it should, so I know that isn't the issue. Only thing I see is that the game version is different for the CAW, and I couldn't locate anything that talks about that. Running on Windows 7 Professional, Intel Xenon 3.3GHz CPU, 8.00GB of RAM, and a NVidia Quatro 600 video card, which, though not listed, runs great.

Any ideas on how to fix this appreciated! Really was looking forward to building some new worlds, and it's frustrating to encounter a hitch. The CAW, for the record, was literally JUST downloaded and installed in the past 48 hours, so it's the most current they offer.

Game is all patched, except for that post-TS4 thing they did, which I won't touch. The game is a fresh install, with all the expansions and store content, and some custom things as well.

Anyway, looking forward to suggestions! Here I'm kind of replying to myself, concerning my recent Edit-in-Game problems. As I wrote earlier in this thread (I have problems getting the Edit-in-Game function to work with the 1.69 version of the game and of the CAW, which is the only version of the CAW that I can run. When I try to launch the Edit-in-Game I get an error message and then I just get to the main menu of the game. Some people have described a similar, but likely not an identical problem (possibly just with the 1.67 version of the CAW?), that caused the game launcher to start when they tried to run the Edit-in-Game in the CAW. This problem have been solved for some by installing the final expansion pack and the final stuff pack.

Well, now I have bought and installed them, the Movie stuff pack and the last expansion pack, In to the future. It didn't work, the same problem was there, I got to the main menu when I started the Edit-in-Game. For the record, I tried with just one of the two packs installed, too, but that didn't work either. So my guess is that that having the last two packs installed can help you if you got the 1.67 CAW and problems with running the Edit-in-Game mode, but it doesn't help with the 1.69 CAW. Or does anyone else know better?

I installed everything, all from disc, on a new system, and patched to 1.67. All expansions, all stuff packs, and all the store content. Installed the 1.67-compatible CAW, and it does open and run, but the Edit-in-Game mode will not open at all. No launcher, just a blank screen for loading, them 'The Sims 3 has stopped working.' I wish it was as simple as adding in an expansion! Strongly suspect it's the store stuff, but removing that defeats the purpose of creating the world I am doing anyway, so not a good solution for me. I even tried an older version of CAW, and saw the same result.

Very frustrating, to be sure. At this point, I am building the world with completely empty lots, and planning to add them after I export the world into the game. Annoying, but at least the game won't be filling empty houses for me, which is something. Seems like, with EA, the more you own, the more they mess you up. I have to wonder if they didn't code some store content to cause the problem, just to push people into buying TS4. I wonder, because I saved all the store stuff, when installing on a laptop just over a year ago, and some files, duplicated from another machine, weren't the same size. Well, at least we know it isn't a CAW version issue, but something else.

CAW and Sims 3 version mismatch work around explained Please first follow all steps in this guide (regarding removal of custom content and clearing caches. This should work in all cases where your game is newer then your CAW version (that is to say after a new patch), but isn't likely to work when you don't have the latest EP or SP (see below).

This condition will usually result in the following error: STEP 0 Be sure that you are using a CAW version that is compatible with your game version; if you have the latest EP or SP then it is likely you want the lastest CAW: Download it from the EA Site at this link. I haven't used CAW since I began with the Sims 3, but decided to start tonight.

Upon looking at the version when I opened CAW I was a bit concerned that it might not be the right one for Pets, so I started looking around, and was lead to this thread. When I opened both of my default ini files they said 'CompatVersion = 13 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 10'. I'm assuming this means that CAW has already been updated for Pets, as I have it installed, and everything matches up. Now I get to figure out how to use CAW, and eventually I might learn to make some CC of my own. I've been playing the Sims since the beginning, and using lots of custom stuff all along, but am anxious to learn how to do some of this stuff on my own. Thank you again! I've already tested this one out yesterday and it didn't work: the start up screen flashed before it shut down without giving an error message.

I've already tried running the application as administrator (didn't work) and changing the DEP (didn't work either). I'm going to try to make the application Large Adress Aware and see if that works.

Hope it will! Edit: So I made it LLA and it didn't work. As a last resort I tried the fix given on this thread and it still doesn't work for me! I don't know why it doesn't work because before I updated to 1.26 - then to 1.29 - it worked pretty well. I'm wondering though if the latest version available is really the one I should get as I don't have Pets. Won't CAW try to find Pets objects in my game folders? To the patchs for base game and WA.

Cause I'm reinstalling again (I messed up somehow before) so i wanna get all base game things done before I put WA in) and every time I install it goes to 1.0.631.00001 and the only up date is 1.29. And WA goes to 2.6.

And when I try to update from simsprogrmas.com It says ' the installed version of the application could not be found the application will now terminate.' If I don't put in WA what version of CAW would I need. And would CAW still include the WA options Am I missing something?:blink. Katie Turner- Are you on Windows 7, Vista or XP?

You need to have administrator priveleges to be able to install the patches. LittleSquare- What is your basegame version? Your World Adventures game is unpatched. Make sure your basegame is fully patched (version 1.29); if it is not then download the superpatcher here: Game Help:TS3 Patching:Patch Download/Current And install it. Then patch WA- use this patch: And apply it. After that, uninstall CAW, clear your browser caches and download the latest CAW version, which should work. OK I unstalled CAW that I downloaded from the offical site, and just did through the 1.51.26?

Patch I need. Right clicked run as admin.started working.:):D:D:D:rofl::rofl::rofl: suddenly it says CAW cannot run while sims 3 program is on please turn other programs off and try again. Or something along those lines.

I did, then computer froze and had to log off and back on. Went to try CAW again and. 'The sims 3 game data was not found. The sims 3 Create a world Beta-tool may not function properly.' And 'The sims 3 Create a world Beta-tool has Crashed! Exception information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.'

:wtf::faceslap: THIS IS SQUARE ONE AGAIN:cry: base game version: 1.8.25 World Adventure Version: 2.3.33 Create a world version: 1.5.126:help::help. CAW and the game cannot run at the same time. There's no WA folder in the User Documents path. Only Program Files. Is this your first time trying to use CAW and installing it? I mean, CAW has never been installed and run on this machine before? How much RAM memory do you have?

Perhaps we need to look at your specs. Game Help:System Specs And WA is the only expansion you have, yes?

Have you done a FULL and clean Uninstall + Reinstall since all this started (the link is in the Wiki's Patching series - the header with the link 'If all else fails'? I haven't been following your issues. Why aren't you patched up to 1.29, I mean? What's the reasoning behind staying on an outdated patch 1.8/2.3? Because you thought CAW 1.13.7 on base game patch 1.29 doesn't work on your machine? And now it turns out WA's install has issues? If that is the case, then a full Uninstall and reinstall of all games (yes, again) is the only cure. You already have a post deleted and merged, that means we discourage double posting.

Don't make the Edit button feel neglected.;). The game wasn't on I don't know why it did that. It was there before. No I've used it before, what started this, was a virus over a year ago. We cleaned most stuff out.

I have, ambitions, late night. Fast lane, generations an pets. But WA is the only one in.(the others were gifts, I played them to not be ungrateful, but all they did was cause more issues) I was told to try 1.5.126 first but that I would need 1.8/2.3. Define full uninstall, I've already done it nearly 10 times in two days. I don't know how much RAM memory I have, and no offence you should go back look at my other post.(it's alot easier then trying to explain) This NOT my computer, it's my mother's and including myself there is six users on it. So I have to be careful with what I do. And yes I know about the multi-posting, I keep forgetting where I leave off.

Sims should come with the warning: may cause stress and the urge to use the game as a frisbee and or smash your computer. @ellacharm3d- Katie is trying to get CAW running with only WA, and it seems that she will need to have a very old game version and CAW version to do that. The current version of CAW requires the latest EPs.

She has done an uninstall and reinstall so that we can get to this older patch version. Not sure if it will work, but we are trying! @Katie Turner- the links in the first post are to older complete versions of CAW, not just patches.

So, you were correct to uninstall the new version of CAW and then install 1.5.126 from the link in the first post.:) As you are getting this error: NOW try checking for version mismatch as in the first post. SO, you need to go to C: Program Files Electronic Arts The Sims 3 World Adventures Game Bin and open Default.ini with notepad. Then, go to C: Program Files Electronic Arts The Sims 3 Create a World Tool and open Default.ini with notepad. Check the CompatVersion and WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion as in step 6 of the first post. They should match in both default.ini files. Do they match? If not then change the WA one to match the CAW one.

Then save it and close all files. Does it work? SO, you need to go to C: Program Files Electronic Arts The Sims 3 World Adventures Game Bin and open Default.ini with notepad. Then, go to C: Program Files Electronic Arts The Sims 3 Create a World Tool and open Default.ini with notepad. Check the CompatVersion and WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion as in step 6 of the first post. They should match in both default.ini files. Do they match?

If not then change the WA one to match the CAW one. Then save it and close all files. Does it work? I went to try but I didn't need to change them they match.

@Ella- If you look at the table on the first page, to use CAW with only WA Kiritra found that you need to have basegame 1.8.25, WA 2.3.33 and CAW 1.5.126. However, for Katie it seems that this is not working!:( We know definitely though that you can't have 1.11.10 CAW without Generations, and so the latest CAW definitely needs later than WA. Katie Turner- If you are still getting errors with no version mismatch then the only thing we can try is the next version, 1.6.72.

For that you need this patch for the basegame: And this patch for WA: And then this patch for CAW. Note- this is a patch; so do not uninstall CAW, just extract it and run it as you do for the game patches! This is the only time EA ever released a patch instead of an updated version of CAW. After that, again check for a version mismatch and correct it if there is one. Then, test CAW but test with a fresh set of user files. By that I mean drag Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 3 Create A World Tool to the desktop before you run it.

If that fails then I'm out of suggestions; I would advise you to buy the latest SP and patch fully, then use the latest version of CAW! Okay, I'm going to try to show you how to find this information yourself, instead of me having to find all the links (as it takes a lot of time!) Look in the table in first post; for Ambitions you need basegame 1.15.34; Ambitions4.3.4; CAW 1.9.16. So go to our Patch Archive page- the link is HERE (but you could also find it by clicking Help>Sims 3>Installation FAQs at the top of this page. Then go to basegame patches.

Your current patch level is at 1.11.7 and we know your games are region 1, so you need to look for a patch to take you from 1.11.7 to 1.15.34. So look in the archive and find a region 1 patch for that, then download it and install it. Now go back to the patch archive page and look in Ambitions patches.

We know from looking at the MTS Patch table (that the unpatched version of Ambitions is version 4.0.87, so we need a patch to take you from 4.0.87 to 4.3.4. So look on the Ambitions patch archive page for a Region 1 patch for that (assuming that your Ambitions disk is also region 1; please check that first). Then download that patch and install it. Remember though that we need to also patch WA as you have that installed too- look at the patch table again and you will see that the equivalent gameversion for WA for basegame 1.15.34 is 2.10.5. So you need a patch for WA to take you from 2.6.11 to 2.10.5. So look in the patch archive, go to the WA page and find a region 1 patch to do that, download it and install it.

Now, you are ready to download CAW. So uninstall your old version of CAW, then download 1.9.16 from the link in the table on the first page. (The link is actually broken; give me a few minutes to fix that. If it doesn't work at first, try later). Then install that, and test.

Now you know how I found the link, you can find them for yourself, so that you don't need someone to keep showing you.:). :new::help: Hello, As of Feburary 20, 2012 These are my game versions. Launcher Version ~ 10.0.96.014017 EP & SP Versions Base ~ 1.17 World Adventures ~ 2.17.2.011037 High End Loft Stuff ~ 3.13.1.011037 Ambitions ~ 4.10.1.011037 Fast Lane Stuff ~ 5.8.1.011037 Late Night ~ 6.5.1.011037 Outdoor Living Stuff ~ 7.3.2.011037 Generations ~ 8.0.152.011017 Town Life Stuff ~ 9.0.73.012017 Pets ~ 10.0.96.013017 I have no clue what my CAW version is. How do I find it? I can say that I redownloaded it 2 days ago from The Sims 3 offficial site. And since I've read they update their link with the newest version as they put out new EP's & SP's.

I assume it's their newest, perhaps for Master Suite? What is the version # for it? I do NOT have Master Suite, however I DO have every previous EP & SP released. I have had the same problems with CAW as many others. The 1st time it would not work, was over a year ago. At that time, it stated incompatible.

I assume it was due to me not having Fast Lane at that time, but did have the next EP & SP after FL. I eventually bought FL & did uninstall & reinstall CAW from the offical site & still the same result. I had also uninstalled & reinstalled all EP's & SP's in order along with their updates/patches after each EP & SP. As well as the Super Patch. 2 days ago, I downloaded it again & still have issues with it. I currently have no plans to buy Master Suite, however I may buy it when I buy Showtime next month.

Until then I would still like to figure out why CAW won't work for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!:) P.S. CAW pop up with. The Sims 3 Create A Wolrd Tool-Beta has crashed. Exception Information Attempted to read or write protected Memory.

This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.:wtf: P.S.S. I am the only Administrator & only person with access on MY Windows 7 pc. ___________________________________________________________________ Edit ~ Apparently I need CAW version 1.13.7. Is that the one listed on The Sims 3 Official site? If it is, I have it, but still have the above pop up when I try to use CAW. Edit #2 ~ I also get this pop up. The Sims 3 Create A World Tool-Beta has failed to shut down properly. Please end The Sims 3 Create A World Tool-Beta task using the Windows Task Manager.

Edit #3 ( Last one, I PROMISE):) I hovered my mouse pointer over the new CAW WorldTool Setup.exe I downloaded & installed 2 days ago. It says File Version 15.0.0.498 Too new for my current EP/SP????:blink. Not knocking Kiritra's earlier work on this as the issue did exist once, but I think EA made some changes to fix it since then. I did some testing with the following combinations and didn't need to edit the Default.ini at all! Not knocking Kiritra's earlier work on this as the issue did exist once, but I think EA made some changes to fix it since then.

I did some testing with the following combinations and didn't need to edit the Default.ini at all! @ ellacharm3d I have come to the same conclusion.

I tried everything else here & elsewhere. Either those methods didn't apply to my issue or didn't work.I am completely patched & up to date on all EP's, SP's, Base, & Launcher. I had the newest download from The Sims 3 official site, which I believed to be too new for me. And 1.11.12 was too old. So I downloaded 1.13.7.

It works where the others would not. I can not load a map to create a new world.

Says the maps are not a png. I am going to try this as well ( )& that's why I downloaded the 1.13.7 because you can only do it with 1.13.7. Maybe that will fix something.

Does anyone know about the png problem??:blink. Does anyone know about the png problem?? What png problem? Do you mean you cannot load any HeightMaps? The defaults ones or custom ones? Should I put everything in and try the super patcher? You have never updated using the SuperPatcher to know how the process goes? Or you don't know where to locate the link to the current SuperPatcher 1.29 exe?

Simsample's walkthrough on how to find things for yourself so you can do it for the next patch and the next after that, is also still too confusing? Have you read the Patch_Table Wiki page at all and the other pages in the whole series on Patching wiki?

If you're just asking if you should patch to current 1.29 - then yes absolutely. Which is what puzzled me before on why you haven't, remember? You have never updated using the SuperPatcher to know how the process goes? Or you don't know where to locate the link to the current SuperPatcher 1.29 exe?

Which is what puzzled me before on why you haven't, remember? I have trouble understanding certain things I read. I've read every blasted page i can find. 1.29 is what nearly destroyed my game I put it in and sense then I can't play, like I said before E.

I have to be careful as I go, cause if anything happens to this computer. I'll probably be grounded til I die:blink:. So I'm trying to do this the safest/easy way without breaking anything.

You really should post in Game Help (as we've already established the subject of this thread is not your issue. From what I've read from your other postings you had a symptom where the game screen went black and then you had a crash - that is an indication of driver issues. If the game cannot start, CAW won't either. But, you cannot proceed with things as they are currently, as your files are probably messed up. That's why the need to do a FULL Uninstall first and then we can start on a clean slate.

If you post in Help forums, we can do as much hand-holding as you need without going off-topic in this thread as the Help thread is essentially a place dedicated to helping you alone. Also, we can only go so far in providing links and stuff for you to read. If you don't want to read or don't understand what you read, quote the section or the sentence (not the whole page) and point out which sentence you don't understand so we can elaborate for you further, or find other laymen terms to explain it in. Just saying 'you don't understand' or 'everything is confusing' just tells us that you're not interested to troubleshoot, so in turn, why should the helpers bother (especially when our games are not broken)? We can go as slow as you need to, thus why in Help thread and not here, OK? So, what's the next step?

Read the Uninstall FAQ again, and then follow along until you get stuck. When you do get stuck, tell us the sentence that you got stuck at and what you've done up to that point, in the Game Help Forum section.

Start your own thread and be as comprehensive as possible. And we'll proceed from there. Since you're using a shared family PC, all the more reason to read everything multiple times until you understand.

And again if you don't understand, Ask! ---- ps: how to 'quote'? Put the text in between the quote tags like this: (quote)Here she comes round the mountain.(quote) with [ ] instead of ( ) or if you go into the Advance Editing window (click on the Go Advance button at the bottom of the Quick Reply box), you can select the text you want to quote and then click on the button from the toolbar.

Ok just to be sure my versions are right Base game:1.01 World Adventures:2.17.2.011031 Ambitions:4.10.1.011031 Late Night:6.5.1.011031 Generations:8.0.152.011001 Create a World:1.37 I do NOT have: Pets or 'any' Stuff packs in Are they correct? And I don't know if this is the problem but I noticed when looking for my versions including CAW have: CompatVersion = 11 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 8 Except Base Game: CompatVersion = 14 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 11 Could that be the issue? Ellacharm3d- thanks for the testing, I appreciate it! Did you also test EIG mode with each configuration? One of the problems with certain versions was that EIG was either inaccessible, or unstable, or had saving problems.

Katie Turner did patch to 1.29, but it would not work for her which was why we tried older CAW versions. Simm374- The png problem seems to indicate a corrupt CAW install, the only solutions I've seen to this are to remove CAW, clear any remaining registry keys or files, and reinstall cleanly. Katie Turner- Yes, as Ella said, you need to have your game working to have CAW working. It would have saved us a lot of time if you had mentioned that the game did not run!:D I know that the information you are being given is confusing and that there is a lot of it, but we have written our tutorials and guidelines based on a lot of years helping people and answering questions, so you have to do a lot of the work yourself by reading what we link you to and following instructions. Unfortunately, we can't come to your house and do it for you (if you want me to do that, it's £50 per hour and I'll fix your car, your plumbing and your roof too if you need it!) so you have to try things out yourself.:). Ella, should we close this thread altogether? Not much point having this, since general problems and patching/ updating are dealt with in the other thread.:)As discussed with simsample, we were gonna wait until the next patch before making any decisions on locking this thread.

But, since today's patch 1.31 arrived, and with CAW still not updated, this workaround is still needed. I'll be on the lookout for the next CAW version in the coming days until after Showtime is released. The way I'm reading this situation is: as long as EA remembers to release a CAW version whose CompatVersion matches the patch's Level No ((the Level Column in the Patch_Table Wiki), this workaround is not needed. But for the interim until such new CAW updates are released, this workaround is still applicable (I just tested with patch 1.31 (level 15) and CAW 1.13.7 (CompatVersion 14) - Default.ini needed tweaking). So, in summary, how to know which situation applies?

Read Game Help:Patch_Table. If workaround needed for CAW, it would have the superscript as indicated. I think I've sorted it, CAW now works, but the actual game is now playing up, I've sorted out the CC and mods, some of the CC still isn't working how it used to before the update, but it still functions. But when I come to save and end the game it started saving and never finished. I left it about half an hour but when I came back it still said it was saving so I forced it to close withouot saving.

But CAW now works, I now need to get used to it and sort out the actual game. Thanks for the help getting CAW working.

Alright, I have all of the below stuff, but not the Showtime expansion (yet), and not the Master Suite, Katy Perry, or Diesel stuff packs. Getting the same message as before, about the version being off. So, which files do I need to modify? Hi LadyGreenEyes649, yes- you need to make sure each EP and SP is fully patched, as CAW seems to sometimes have problems with unpatched EPs (although this should not be a problem for playing Sims 3).

Check out the Patch table for the links to download the patches: Game Help:Patch Table If you click the 2011 'more info' button you will see the links to the last EP patches (as the later patches are only for the basegame). So try those first and see if that works for you.:) Will check that then, thanks! Figured it was a patch issue. Well, at least till I get the new expansion. Will post if this works or not.

You're a treasure.:beer. Alright, checked the chart, updated all that weren't (World Adventures, and three of the four stuff packs), and all should be up to date, but I still get the error. Tried the newest CAW, reinstalled, but no good. Any other ideas?

Is this when I have to edit the world versions or something? Hi All, i'm having problems running CAW. I've had problems for a long time now but I've put it to one side and just played other peoples pre made hoods but I'd rather like to get back to building my own. When I try to save (or any point really) i get the 'The Sims 3 Create a World has crashed - Attempted to read or write protected memory.yada yada'. It won't run for more than 5 mins before it crashes. I've read various threads about CAW issues and they all seem to be pretty old apart from this one, so I guess most peoples are running properly now and I'm the slow coach of the simming world:-). I've checked my patches for all my games (I have every game installed apart from Katy Perry and Diesel) and they are all up to date, my default ini.

Files are all the same, so I don't think it's that either. GameVersion = 1.18.3.017037 CompatVersion = 17 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 14 GameVersion = 1.02 CompatVersion = 17 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 14 I'm really stuck as to what it is.

I hadn't tried CAW since installing Showtime and when I launched it two days ago it said it wasn't compatible so I uninstalled it and redownloaded from the sims 3 site and thought 'Yay!' It might actually work now.but no, still no joy, I loaded the Sv lite world, tried 'save as' and it crashed again.I'm running 64bit and from what i've read LAA crashes are caused running 32bit, so I'm sat here scratching my head. Could someone help? Don't triple-post, please use the EDIT button if no one has responded on the thread. So are both the game and CAW, CC free at this time?

Everything is on vanilla settings, when you've worked through the FAQs and suggestions? That may mean it is the hardware and access controls looks like.

What Operating System, CPU, how much RAM and what GPU do you have? If you produce a DxDiag report, just copying those 4 lines would be sufficient, the lines with those models and information, not the whole report. Game Help:System Specs Oh, and this is the first time running CAW on this machine, ever? So, no way to compare if it had worked on earlier patch versions, I mean?

It didn't work and I REALLY want to start on my world now, annoys me:( Now what happened was that after I did everything with the compatibility and copying and pasting, it said I had to save the notefiles. So I tried to overwrite the old, uncompatible default file with the new as following the toturial. When I answered 'yes' to the overwriting, a message sayin': 'access denied' or such(I have an norwegian PC and a norwegian game, basically it said 'ingen tilgang' which means about that). What did I do wrong? Why does it deny me access to overwrite the friggin' file?:/ Would be great with fast answers, It's getting on my nerves:/ - Layla PS: Maybe you'll need some info about my PC to check out the problem.:!: The system it runs is Windows 7, it's a Toshiba Laptop. This is the three lines in the 'default' file of CAW: GameVersion = 1.18.3.017037 CompatVersion = 17 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 14 And this is the default file lines from TS3: GameVersion = 1.38.151.018002 CompatVersion = 18 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 15 Now I edited this like it was said in toturial, but it wouldn't save, so this is the current state of the files.:help: - Layla.

@LenaShan and Wolfbandit- the problem is that EA have not released the updated CAW for gameversion 1.38. They usually take a few days after a patch to get a new version out, but someone on the Sims 3 forums mentioned that EA may be on vacation until Tuesday (I don't know if that's accurate or not). So you'll just have to wait until the new version is released- there is no way to tell from the download page, but if you look on the Sims 3 site CAW forum you'll get a good idea of when it's updated by the posts there (you'll see 10001 posts complaining that CAW doesn't work until they do update!).

There is no way to make the old version of CAW work with gameversion 1.38- this trick will not work for that. I have searched (I feel) the whole wide web for a solution to my problem - Your game is not compatible with this version of blah blah blah Create-a-World. I uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled forever, days on end, but no.

(Bear in mind that I even installed Windows via Bootcamp on my NEW MacBook Pro JUST for the CAW!) And somehow, I found info on CompatVersion and WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion and checked. Both Diesel stuff and CAW was the same, but it still wouldn't work. But nobody had had THAT problem.

Everybody else got their compatibilityproblem fixed. (sons of **). So, in friggin desperacy, I checked the default file on Sims 3 base game. And, seeing it was different from CAW and Diesel, I changed it so they'd all match. AND IT WORKS!!!!!! I am bloody serious.

I thought I was hallucinating, but it actually works. I will now be titled the queen of CAW-fix. But for all of those who, like me, want to send a seriously harsh letter to EA for this troubly-but-awesome-program, try it. PS: I registered on modthesims.info just to say this.

Now I'll play God.:king: PPS: I tried to upload a photo just to prove it, but I couldn't be bothered searching for how to prtscrn on Windows on Mac. @LenaShan and Wolfbandit, If you cannot save the edited Default.ini directly from withing Notepad into the Program Files path, means you're getting blocked by UAC. Save it to Desktop or elsewhere and then, move and replace the original copy (already backed up I hope) with this edited version. This workaround still works, I was just using it the past few days, when I can't hold off patching to 1.38 anymore as I need to see the differences before I install SuperNatural. But, by the time you read this, 1.19 is available.:). I came here to post my opinion about the CAW.

I downloaded the latest file version 1.18.3.170037 and rewrite the last two lines of the file on 'Default' in accordance with the final version of my Sims 3: CompatVersion = 18 WorldBuilderCompatibilityVersion = 15 (last updated 1.39) Previously, I had tried to start the CAW, but without success, but after 'upgrade' the Default, lol, I'm usually working on it!!! Thanks so much to all of the people here who had the same troubles and who had posted solutions!:beer. I came here to post my opinion about the CAW.
