You must use very dry wood in these otherwise they block up with soot and crap very quickly, especially if run on low for long periods. From memory hubby is a boilermaker/welder? If so get him to make one up.:P if you can't find one kicking around. Might even be possible to use an old oil filled column heater (with electrics removed and oil drained of course). Parts where horribly expensive, especially the firebricks and oven insert, so try and resurrect as much as possible.

Also watch the door and top hotplate seals, think they might still contain asbestos if they are original. Not 100% on that but better safe than sorry.
